NAPLES — An executive order issued today by Gov. Charlie Crist will prevent thousands of Floridians from a delay in receiving unemployment compensation.

“I am committed to exercising my Constitutional duty to authorize the use of available federal funds to help out-of-work Floridians who qualify for this help,” Crist said in a statement.

When state-extended benefits expired in June, some 47,000 Florida recipients had several more weeks left in their claims, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation, which oversees unemployment compensation in Florida.

Since then, 56,714 more Floridians have come to the end of their emergency unemployment compensation and could now qualify for state-extended benefits.
